2023

With works by: Álvaro Eduardo Fernández | Francisco Zúñiga | Jessica Rodríguez | Beto Olsi | Mauricio Benítez | Michele Larusso

The World Wide Web has unleashed an incalculable cultural and social change, placing us in a world where the understanding of the body, identity and mind seem infinite, www is also a container for convulsive incorporeal phenomena and forces, tangible in a perpetual and persistent multi-user environment that merges physical reality with digital virtuality.

The Happy Slapping exhibition presents, through the works of six decentralized views, multiversal phenomena that converge in as many points as there are pixels on a screen: Waiting from machines and their containers, memory from the ineffable nature of the digital body and the violence that it traverses. all of Mexico in its various digital rituals of normalization, premonition and satirical need for catharsis.
The materialities of the works unfold the software, declaring the screenshot as an artistic practice, exhibiting and criticizing the corporatist and systemic brutality from memetism, inciting the hardware to anchor the self and its multiple reflections, the artists of this reading look more at the present and the future. past than to the future, because the future has already happened.

* The term happy slapping is a phenomenon that was born in the United Kingdom in 2005, it has been spreading in recent years by imitation with one purpose: to record an attack and post it on the Internet to make it viral, it is considered a cybercrime, the matches with this sample are a mere coincidence.

If you are an artist, then you have no doubt copied the work of others. This copying can range from using pages from a magazine in a collage to adopting the style of another artist, or simply being inspired by their work. This natural process of copying, taught to us at every stage of our artistic development, is burdened with a very complex and messy set of laws and social conventions which define and limit how we can use copying in our practices. They don’t account for exceptions or nuances, and come from a historical world in which artworks were scarce physical objects, not translating well into a world in which culture is abundant and can be accessed and copied at will.

With works by: Helio Santos|  Fabiola Larios | Moises Sanabria

Toplap MX presents “Maquinaturalis”, the first online virtual group exhibition of artists from Latin America who question the relationship between humans and machine learning, and explore the impact of virtual interactions between users and web browsers.

“Maquinaturalis” includes new site-specific works by interdisciplinary artists who are presenting their virtual exhibition, such as Fabiola Larios, Moises Sanabria and Helio Santos Sanchez. Drawing on the traditions of digital art and creative machine learning, the artists examine the ways in which viewers approach virtual objects and the interdependence that develops between humans and the machines they use.

Maquinaturalis

NFT/VR exhibition of Latin-American AI Artists
curated by Malitzin Cortes
2019

During the time of the pandemic, many artistic expressions, exhibitions and face-to-face exchanges between humans were abruptly stopped, the need arose to build spaces in the metaverse that went beyond work and pedagogical meetings, we became metaversal beings seeking different ways of continuing to live concerts, exhibitions, poetry readings, talks and architecture in the metaverse was refined and became "the digital space" as a means of expression in itself.

cr

In this context I developed different projects in Unity WebVR and Mozilla Hubs (same WebVR space that today 2024 has closed its doors and multiple spaces created by the community) remains the video record of various artistic events: concerts, exhibitions, works in themselves that used the digital body from the avatar, the scale and the dynamics close to video games, soon these and other new spaces will be brought to this website so that they can be explored, played and lived in a metaversal way.
